FAQ
Whats is the type of wood used?
All our wood is upcycled pine wood from European pallets. This kind of wood, with its yellow or red hues, has a rich grain and knotty characteristics. Our pine wood is upcycled from responsibly sourced pallets.
Pine is one of the fastest growing woods, and the cultivated forests are replanted when the wood is harvested. Since we give a second everlasting life by way of upcycling, we believe that we are contributing positively to the environment.
Is the wood safe?
We procure and work with only safe pine wood. Our pine wood, at source, is not chemically treated. The only treatment it undergoes at the source is that of heat treatment and kiln drying, which, as the names suggest, is nonchemical. Our upcycled lumber is certified IPPC HT KD (International Plant Protection Convention - Heat Treated and Kiln Dried)
Where is the wood sourced from?
Our wood comes from slats, planks and containers that arrive in India from Europe
since most of heavy packaging in Europe is done using wood.
What exactly is upcycled wood?
Upcycled wood is wood that’s been reused and transformed into a new, often higher-value
product without breaking it down into raw materials. Instead of throwing old
wood away, upcycling gives it a second life in a way that improves its
function, design, or value.
Why are the prices at Ubyld higher than theaverage furniture store?
Ubyld uses solid pine wood that is organic and is mostly in par with plywood
furniture prices. However, our furniture is pricier than furniture that is made
from MDF wood or Particle Boards.
Why do most products have slats instead of a flat surface?
That is mainly a design element. We do have a lot of flat surfaced pieces and can create one according to your needs.
Do you make the showcased furniture in customsizes and colors?
Yes, you can customize your furniture to suit your needs and taste.
Would you create a custom piece if I told you the idea?
Absolutely, we have a design team that you can speak to and curate custom pieces with.
Do you integrate metals or glass in your furniture?
We do integrate other materials into our furniture and can do so depending on your requirements.
What adhesives are used to assemble the furniture?
Our furniture is held together by wood-work adhesives and screws.
Does the furniture require polishing regularly?
Not until rigorously used or damaged by scratches or pet bites and so on.
Is the delivery included in the price?
Yes, delivery charges are inclusive.
Is it possible to color match another piece of furniture at home?
Mostly and it depends on what is possible within our limitations. There are chances it won’t be the exact same but we can try
our best to get it as close as possible.
Why do some parts of the wood have certain anamolies in them?
- Small nail holes: These are from the pallets that they were recovered from. We ensure that the holes are minimal and do not effect the structure of the resulting end furniture
- Knot holes: These are nothing but the holes that arise naturally in pine due to lateral branch growth. The world over, this is considered as a desired quality in wood, as it imparts the wood a distinct character that MDF or plyboard furniture lacks.
Did you know? The Japanese, known for having an eye for the natural, deliberately seek out furniture with knot wood!
Where do you deliver to?
Presently we are limited to Bengaluru city.
